WBTC[hts] represents a wrapped version of Bitcoin (BTC) that has been bridged to the Hedera network. This token allows Bitcoin's value to be utilized within the Hedera ecosystem.
The WBTC[hts] token is created through a bridging process facilitated by the Hashport bridge. This mechanism enables the transfer of assets from the Ethereum blockchain, where the original WBTC resides, to the Hedera network.
Once bridged, WBTC[hts] can be used for various decentralized finance (DeFi) activities and applications built on the Hedera network. It aims to provide liquidity and interoperability between Bitcoin's value and Hedera's high-throughput, low-fee environment.
Each WBTC[hts] token is intended to be backed 1:1 by an equivalent amount of Bitcoin held in reserves. This backing is designed to maintain its peg to Bitcoin's value.
